Simon Ellison is the is Project Director for the Seamless Freight Portfolio that is building a viable ”vein-to-vein” supply chain for commercial volumes of cell therapies. As Senior Business Development Manager of the Cell Therapy Catapult, he is also responsible for identifying and targeting key therapies for development into PhIII ready treatments.
Prior to this he was the Commercial Manager for NHS Blood & Transplant (NHS BT), which is the organisation responsible for stem cell, bone marrow, organ, tissue and blood supply chains in the UK. He guided NHSBTs strategic move into cell therapies, by utilising their established infrastructure to deliver commercial manufacturing and logistics services to therapy developers.
His early career was in life sciences, initially with Sartorius, managing both national and international commercial channels, and launching new products into emerging markets. He has since worked in a variety of bio-pharmaceutical markets ranging from antibodies to ultra-pure water, delivering novel strategies to take companies forward. Before joining NHSBT he was Commercial Director of the National Pharmacy Association, building partnerships with Santander & Learn Direct, within the not-for-profit market.
He has a BA in Environmental Science from Newcastle University and an MBA from Oxford Brooks University. He now sits on the ISCT Commercialisation Committee, BioIndustry Associations Cellular Therapy and RegenMed Advisory Committee, and is one of the organisers of the TERMIS-EU Congress.
